FROM the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) came a revelation Wednesday that the two BMW 760 series armoured cars were shipped into the country under the pretext of using them for the 18th Lagos national sports festival tagged Eco-2012.

These vehicles have become a source of controversy as the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, is implicated in their alleged illegal purchase.

This is just as it said the Ministry of Finance directed that a waiver of N10.1 million be applied on the importation the cars for the 18th National Sports Festival, Eko 2012.

This came to fore at the continued investigation of the House of Representatives into the purchase of the controversial BMW cars, where the Comptroller General of NCS, Mr Abdulahi Inde Dikko, said the point of entry of the cars was Tincan Port in Lagos, adding that no import duty was collected from Coscharis Motors because one year duty waiver for 300 cars was granted by the Federal Government.

NIGERIANS have no reason to be apprehensive over the proposed visa application bond because such scheme does not exist, the British High Commission has said.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Lagos at the Solar for Security and Renewable Energy exhibition organised by a UK firm, Solar and Electric Gates Limited, in partnership with a Nigerian firm, YOMADEK Global Networks Limited, Deputy British High Commissioner, Peter Carter, said no decision has been taken by British ministers on any form of visa bond.

THE on-going strike of resident doctors has started to take its toll on the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, as the hospital’s in-patients are being discharged prematurely by the management.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the in-patients, regardless of their condition, were asked to go home or patronise any private hospital, as the striking resident doctors failed to report for work.

Another air disaster was averted at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja on Monday as a Med-View Airlines aircraft from Lagos suddenly took to the air again at the point of landing in Abuja.

THIRTY-FIVE bodies in military uniform have been brought to a morgue in Yobe State, after a coordinated assault by Boko Haram targeting the security forces, a hospital source told AFP on Monday.

The attack, late last week Thursday in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, was the first raid in a major urban centre in several weeks by the insurgent group, waging a four-year Islamist uprising.

THE Ondo State Police Command has arrested two inter-state robbery suspects who were said to have come from Lagos and Ogun States to perpetrate crime in the sunshine state.
