N255m armoured BMW: Cars imported for Eko Sports Festival - Customs •FAAN bought 202 vehicles - Senate



THE Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, disclosed that the BMW cars allegedly bought by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Oduah, were imported into the country by Coscharis Motors Limited alongside 300 cars.

This is just as it said the Ministry of Finance directed that a waiver of N10.1 million be applied on the importation  the cars for the 18th National Sports Festival, Eko 2012.

This came to fore at the continued investigation of the House of Representatives into the purchase of the controversial BMW cars, where the Comptroller General of NCS, Mr Abdulahi Inde Dikko, said the point of entry of the cars was Tincan Port in Lagos, adding that no import duty was collected from Coscharis Motors because one year duty waiver for 300 cars was granted by the Federal Government.

The Nigerian Navy, Central Naval Command, has arrested nine Nigerians and three Ghanaians on board a vessel laden with crude oil suspected to have been stolen from Akassa community in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

More patients are reporting to health centres in Namu Community in Plateau State following thecholera outbreak in the camp of the Internally Displaced Persons in Namu Community in Qua’pan Local Government Area in Plateau state.

THE Ondo State Police Command has arrested two inter-state robbery suspects who were said to have come from Lagos and Ogun States to perpetrate crime in the sunshine state. Also recovered from them were one single barrel locally-made pistol, one double barrel locally-made pistol and nine live cartridges.
The two suspects, Chukwudi Nwafor (46), from Enugu State and Olanrewaju Wasiu from Ogun State were both said to have come to Ondo town on October 4, at about 7.30p.m to rob a trader (names withheld) in her shop at Ayelabola Street in the town.
The armed gang, led by one Philip said to be an indigene of the town, reportedly entered the woman’s shop, pulled out guns and asked her to surrender all her valuables. One of gthe armed suspects was said to have hit her on the forehead with the gun he held. Another resident of the street who came to buy some provisions was also attacked and dispossessed of about N7,000.

A former Education Minister, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has said that both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) failed to get it right in the making of the 2009 agreement that has become a subject crisis rocking the nation’s university system.

She has therefore, called for a neutral approach to resolution on the kind of university system to be run in Nigeria.

Ezekwesili stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja, at the Unity Schools Old Students’ Association One-Day Summit/Dialogue on Education, Good Governance and National Unity.
