Plateau Cholera Outbreak: Health Centres Record Patients Increase

More patients are reporting to health centres in Namu Community in Plateau State following thecholera outbreak in the camp of the Internally Displaced Persons in Namu Community in Qua’pan Local Government Area in Plateau state.
The camp is hosting thousands of Nasarawa indigenes who were displaced in the aftermath of a tribal clash between Eggon and Alago people in Obi and Lafia Local Government Area councils.
Poor sanitary condition
Already, over 80 cases have been reported as more people are approaching the health centres in the community for medical attention.
At least nine children have already been reported dead.
The poor sanitary condition of their adopted habitation has been identified as the major reason the epidemic is brewing in the camp. The diseases surveillance office of Qua’pan local government gave the details of the epidemic.
The Nasarawa state government has promised to relocate the displaced persons and is making efforts to curtail the disease.
The displaced persons are anxiously waiting for the government to implement its promises, so they can return to their normal way of life.
