Pirates Assault Two Police Officers In Bayelsa, Kill One

The Bayelsa state police command have confirmed the fact that a police officer was murdered by pirates over the weekend in Ikebiri, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The spokesperson of the command, Alex Akhigbe, said the deceased was, together with his colleague, escorting a barge from Port Harcourt to Koluama community in Bayelsa when the suspected pirates attacked them.

One officer was shot and died instantly, while the other sustained serious injuries.

The said police officers are not from the Bayelsa police command, but from Port Harcourt. They were travelling to Koluama in Bayelsa with a barge when the incident happened.
